Rockets celebrity insider Ralph Sampson talked about his similarities with Vinban Yama in a recent interview.
"If I could play in this era, I would definitely show a stronger dominance than in the past. Easy 30+20. People say I am the ancient version of Wenban Yama, and I asked me to say he is the modern version of Sampson. I can play behind the low post, dribble, and shoot far. We wouldn't shoot a lot of three-pointers in that era, but I believe my mentality is very firm and can reach the elite level in this regard." Sampson said.
Ralph Sampson was the No. 1 pick in 1983, 24 meters tall, and formed a double tower with Olajuwon in the Rockets in the early years of his career. He was selected as All-Star in the first four seasons of his career, but he only played in the NBA for 9 seasons due to injury, averaging 15.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 blocks per game in 456 regular season games. In 2012, Sampson was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. In his 9-year career, Sampson scored a total of 58 three-pointers and scored 10 of them.
