In the first round of the Club World Cup group stage, facing the Bundesliga powerhouse Dortmund, Fruminense from Brazil had the advantage in the whole game, and exchanged a blank sheet with his opponent, winning a crucial point. In this game, the head coach Renato Gaucho, who led Fruminense to play, has a legendary resume. In April this year, he took office in this team for the seventh time. It has been 30 years since the first hand of the two sides.

Player era: Once a Brazilian international

Gojo was born in 1962 and debuted in Gremio when he was a player. From 1980 to 1986, he left 146 appearances and 45 goals for the team, playing an important role in the team. After that, Goucho transferred to Flamenco and briefly made a European debut in 1988 to join the Serie A giant Roma, but returned to Brazilian football a year later.

Gaucho's experience in Rome is hard to say, but it does not affect his becoming a great player. From 1983 to 1993, he played 41 times for the Brazilian national team and scored 5 goals. In 1995, 33-year-old Gojo joined Fruminense as a player and had contacted the Brazilian giant for the first time. In the two seasons he played for the team, he has entered his twilight years of his career and made 59 appearances and scored 24 goals, still showing outstanding offensive efficiency.

After leaving Fruminense, Goucho joined Flamenco for the fourth time. In 1999, he joined the low-level team Ban Gu, and after a short stay here, he officially ended his career as a player. In his 19-year career, Gojo played for too many Brazilian teams. Although transfers were very frequent, he contributed enough to the teams he played for most of the time.

Coaching career: Continuously changing the team

As early as 1996, Gao Qiao, who had not yet retired, temporarily served as the head coach of Fruminense while recovering from a knee injury. He was ordered to take over the task of leading the team to relegate. Although the team ended up being second to last, Fluminense was lucky enough to relegate due to scandals of other teams manipulating the game. In 2001, Gao Qiao, who had just retired, took office in Madurella and officially began his coaching career. A year later, he came to Fruminense, starting in September 2002 and coached until early July 2003. Afterwards, he was temporarily dismissed and after returning in October of the same year, he left again by the end of the year.

After resigning from Fruminense, Gojo came to Vascoda Gama. This time he stayed for a relatively long time. After two years of coaching, he once again became the head coach of Fruminense. In this coaching experience, Gao Qiao led the team to win the Brazil Cup and won the first championship in his coaching career, but they lost the final of the Liberators Cup, leaving behind a lot of regrets. In 2008, Gojo was in trouble in coaching at Fruminense. He was fired after leading the team to lose to the bottom-ranked team and fell to the last place. Not long after, Gao Qiao coached Vascoda Gama for the second time, but unfortunately, he failed to lead the team to relegation successfully.

Frumenense hired Gojo again in July 2009, but fired him in less than two months. Since then, he coached Fruminense for the sixth time in 2013, stayed for five months, and left, and coached Gremio for the third time in 2016, ushering in the longest contract in more than ten years of coaching.

Gaucho led Gremio to the Liberators Cup and Brazil Cup in 2016, and then to the South American Cup Winners Cup in 2018. His main honors as a coach are basically won by this team. In 2021, after being eliminated from the South American Liberators Cup, Gojo left Gremio. This five-year period has been his longest coaching experience so far.

Since then, Gojo coached Flamengo for a short period of four months, and once again picked up Gremio's coaching stick from 2022 to 2024. This time he failed to lead the team and won too many honors, but he coached Uruguayan star Suarez. When Suarez left Gremio, Gojo gave him a DVD of his player career highlights as a gift, which once caused heated discussion.

Club World Cup debut: At the beginning, he forced a strong opponent to draw at the beginning. In April this year, Gao Qiao welcomed his seventh position in Frumenense. Before that, he was even listed as a candidate for the head coach of the Brazilian national team. This time, he signed with the team until the end of this year, leading the team to the Club World Cup, which became his most important task. Before the Club World Cup, Frumenense, coached by Gojo, ranked sixth in the Brazilian League standings, and has made considerable improvements compared to his 13th place last season. In the Club World Cup group stage, Frumenense tied Dortmund and ushered in a good start. Next, they will play against Ulsan HD and Mamelodi Sunset.

For Fruminense, who has famous players such as Thiago Silva and Ganso, after scoring 1 point in the first game, there is no big problem in qualifying in the group stage of the Club World Cup. Judging from paper strength, as long as they perform normally, it will not be difficult for them to win the other two games. If they accumulate enough goal difference, they may even have a chance to compete for the top spot in the group.

Can Gojo, who coaches Fruminense for the seventh time, lead the team to make history in the Club World Cup?
