The Warriors don t want to send Kumingga away at a low price easily, preparing for the chance to get Antetokounmpo
The original text is as follows:
What everyone wants to hear is that even if both sides are considering the mid-season deal (2025-26), they may not necessarily be in a hurry to finalize Kumingga's new contract.
If Kumingga signs a multi-year contract with the Warriors sometime this summer, he will be eligible to be traded three months after the start of the new season — that is, next January. The transaction deadline is February 13, 2026.
It is worth noting that if Kumingga signs an early renewal before the rookie contract expires, he will not be eligible for trading within six months. But because he became a free agent, the time he was allowed to trade was shorter than before.
If Kumingga signs a $7.9 million qualification offer for a year, any mid-season transaction must be approved by him (with a trade veto). Again, because he might want to be traded, and any next team may be ready to give him a generous new contract as soon as possible, so that's not as important as most other situations.
The Warriors don't want to sell Kumingga at a price lower than the full trading value for another reason: Like other savvy teams, they are working to keep every asset they have so they can be ready to take action when the Bucks star Antetokounmpo (trading) market heats up.
If you want to trade around a young player, he can get into a barren squad and bring energy to a team that is being rebuilt. Well, I think the Warriors may have a candidate, if the Bucks need it, as long as the Warriors and Kumingga can reach a fixed contract this summer. Then, they can all look to the future.
This does not mean that the Warriors expect Antetokounmpo to ask to leave the Bucks, or they expect Antetokounmpo to indicate that the Bay Area is his preferred destination. Who knows. Antetokounmpo may never leave Milwaukee. Or, if he decides to do so (left), he may also want to join forces with players other than Curry and the Dream Chasing.
But the possibility of Antetokounmpo leaving exists, and he may tell the Bucks that they should trade him to the Warriors. Then, if possible, it depends on whether the Warriors are willing to meet the Bucks' asking price.
Of course, the Warriors are not the only team thinking and planning for this issue. If the Bucks start to consider (Antetokounmpo) deals, the Warriors will certainly not be the team with the most assets. But the Warriors want to be prepared for this. Bringing Kumingga back, for example, giving a three-year contract of $22-25 million per year would be a pretty interesting step in this very presumptive process.
According to the famous reporter of The Athletic Sam Amick, Warriors boss Lacob has always dreamed of Antetokounmpo joining the Warriors.
