34-year-old Spanish right-back Lucas Vazquez joined Leverkusen on a free transfer after his contract with Real Madrid expired after the end of last season. Vazquez signed with Leverkusen until June 30, 2027 and will play for the team wearing the No. 21 jersey.

Leverkusen sports director Simon Rollfes said: "Vazquez is an extremely experienced player. Over the past decade, he has won all the honors he can win with Real Madrid. He has excellent skills, high tactical literacy, and is an excellent passer and strategist. He will have a significant impact on our game with his football skills and special experience and will become a key member of our team."

1.73 meters tall Vazquez was a key player in Real Madrid in the 2024/24 season, with a total of 53 appearances, including 32 in La Liga and 10 in the Champions League. In his career, the player, who played for the national team nine times, has made 402 appearances for Real Madrid and won 23 trophies.

Vazquez said: "Now I look forward to continuing my career at Leverkusen. I have heard a lot about the strengths of this club from Xavi Alonso and my long-time teammate in Madrid, Carvajal. In the discussion with management, I confirmed everything they said, Leverkusen is absolutely focused on victory, hunger and has a big goal.
