Mbappe s mother: My son likes Ronaldo very much. When he was a child, he always said that he was Portuguese
In an interview with the French media "Team News", Mbappe's mother Faiza revealed some interesting stories about her son when he was a child.
How do you think of your son when you see Killian Mbappe appearing in newspaper headlines and on the court?
After leaving Paris, although someone told him that Paris was closer to winning the Champions League than Real Madrid, he said with a childlike innocent look: "Yes, I know, but it doesn't matter, I'll start over." At that time, I saw the little Killian who was dreaming in the room. On the court, I can recognize my son when he plays without defense. Since he was four years old, he has stopped defending! (Laughs) But when fans cheer him or boo him, you will "lose" him, and at that time, he "owned" everyone, but not you. In fact, in this level of field, he has no time to do anything else. When you really want to work in this career with passion and seriousness, there is not much time to do anything else. Actually, I'm not sure if I like to do this, but it was his choice. Because you have no life except football.
Are you afraid and encouraged to become a football idol?
I don't like the word "idol", which sometimes scares me and makes me sad. People only care about his reputation, but rarely talk about the expectations and all the consequences of this. So, there was indeed fear, but when I saw that he could be a role model, there was also joy. I am proud of him being the kind of person he is now, as a person, not a player.
Can you understand the reactions of children when they see him now?
I still remember how Kilian saw Zidane's reaction when he was 14 years old and he said to me, "Mom, he touched my coat and I will never wash it again." So I know what this means for a child.
Talking about Zidane and Ronaldo, he first liked Zidane, when he was only 4 years old. Later, as Ronaldo joined Manchester United and Real Madrid, he became obsessed with Ronaldo again. Then there are Robinho and Ronaldinho... Speaking of Ronaldo, Killian feels that he is a Portuguese, and he will go to a friend's house to watch Portugal games and support Ronaldo. He was very obsessed and always said, "I am a Portuguese."
Can the child still protect him when he becomes strong?
No matter where the child is, whether in Real Madrid or in the hospital, the mother will always protect her children. Even in such an environment, children are easily lost, but the mother is always the mother. What really makes people feel isolated is not fame, but those judgments. Things people talk about in cafes in the past are now written online and widely circulated. These voices do not represent the public's opinions, but can cause great discussion. What makes us even more uneasy is that mainstream media like you actually value these voices so much, which is a bit like the situation in our suburbs: always talking about the 8% of people who do the wrong things, and ignoring 92% of people who succeed.
You and your husband have a very clear division of labor: he is responsible for the players' sports affairs and you handle the finances. What have you learned in the process?
Before Killian, we had represented his brother Kenbo Ecoco, who had played for Rennes for three years without a chance to play, and the situation did not change completely until after the contract renewal. After meeting with the management at the time to learn about the situation, we learned that the reason he was able to play was because he was no longer the basic salary player on the team. From that moment on, I realized that this was not a question about favors, but a question about “how much you are worth or how much you can bring.” So, for Killian, the only way to get the club to value our kids is to get him a high salary.
