36-year-old Australian goalkeeper Langerak announced his retirement and played for Dortmund and Stuttgart
Former Dortmund goalkeeper Langrak posted a message announcing his retirement.
36-year-old Australian goalkeeper Langerak wrote: "Thanks for football! Thanks to this sport, it has given me almost everything in my life! After 18 years of career, it's time to say goodbye to the sport I love deeply.
I have given my all, given a lot, and pushed my body to the limit to achieve what I have today. After more than 400 professional games, I can proudly say that I have prepared and participated in every game as seriously as the last one, which makes me feel awkward. I was very proud.
I had the honor to play in the Champions League and listen to that iconic song, I played at Dortmund, Germany’s greatest club, and won the trophy there. I went through the relegation trough of Stuttgart, and the highlights of the upgrade a year later. I played 286 games for Nagoya Whale Eight and captained the most enjoyable and memorable period of my career. I won the first and last game at Melbourne, Australia’s largest and best club, and I will never forget to achieve the child The glory of dreams in the year - playing for the Australian national team.
The best is that my family has accompanied me to start this journey from a humble beginning, my wife has gone through it with me, sharing the same memories, and the happiness she brings to me is beyond words.
The sport has taught me a lot. I have learned so much, made mistakes, but most importantly, I have met many good people who have become lifelong friends, and in every place I have played for, I have established lasting connections with my friends— — Even our Australian children have permanently stamped ‘Japan’ on their passports as their birthplace.
Thanks to all those who helped me. Finally, thank you to all the fans of the clubs I have played for, thank you for the wonderful memories and the unforgettable nights. Thank you!”
Langerak played for Melbourne Victory, South Melbourne, Dortmund, Stuttgart, Levante, Nagoya Whale Eight, and played 35 games during his time at Dortmund from 2010 to 2015 and conceded 34 goals. At the national team level, Langerak has played for Australia 8 times and conceded 17 goals.
